Here at County Care, we like to share the amazing work our staff do, but also the amazing achievements our Service Users achieve on a daily basis. For some, an achievement could be learning how to cook, getting a bus, or going to a new place.
For the next 12 days leading up to Christmas we’re going to celebrate some of these achievements and share them with you!
Next up is Becky
So, on the 12th day of Christmas, we give you…making friends.
When support worker, Denise met Becky, she was unable to hold eye contact with anyone and Becky would run away.
That was 2 years ago, and since then Denise has watched Becky flourish as a young lady and gain independence in so many ways.
Becky has high functioning autism, however the pair have developed such an amazing relationship that Denise now knows what Becky wants just by looking at her and watching her body langauge.
In the last 2 years they have started to go out for walks together, just the two of them. Denise has encouraged and implemented a new menu for Becky and helped her lose 1 stone. They are now looking into gyms in the area and other hobbies Becky can get involved in. However art is her favourite!
I became Becky’s one to one almost 3 years ago, in fact this January will be our 3 year anniversary!
In the time I have known Becky, I have seen her flourish as a young lady, she has become more independent and let’s her opinion and feelings be known.
Becky has gained a lot of life skills, has embraced healthy living and has managed to lose a stone in weight.
I thoroughly enjoy working with Becky and helping achieve her personal goals.
Our relationship has become very strong over the years and there is a lot of trust between us, we have lots of fun together
– as told by Denise
